What is the difference between TMJ and TMD?
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, which is the joint that connects your jaw bone to the skull in front of each ear. TMD stands for temporomandibular joint disorder, which is when the TMJ affects the functionality of the jaw and causes symptoms like pain, stiffness, and swelling. TMJ disorder and TMD are the same thing, just written differently.
